Rhythm of the 50's
2024
My aim for this project was to create an exciting and colourful website that would reflect the style of event that I chose, which was a drive-in concert, inspired by the music, food, fashion and design styles of the 1950s. The brand identity was heavily 1950's inspired to reinforce the theme of the event, making the website a fun experience on it's own.
Process
I chose this idea because it offers a unique experience and fills a gap in the market for a website that truly reflects the theme of the event it’s promoting. I discovered this need by analysing existing ticket websites.
To find ideas for the site, I drew inspiration from 1950s art and created mood boards to determine the style. Focusing on topics such as 50's music, cars, food and design from that time period.
I then designed wireframes and hand-drawn illustrations that aligned with 1950s themes, focusing on elements like music, food, and cars. Every detail, from typography to imagery and page layouts, was carefully chosen to reinforce the them of the 1950s.
I also finalised the primary user flow, mapping out the process from the home page to purchasing a ticket.
After completing the initial design, I went to my peers and lecturers to identify areas for improvement through user testing. One specific feedback point was that the header image didn't fully capture the event's theme as it focused more on the food element rather than the live music element; the main part of the event. I would always reinforce these points with Norman's 10 Heuristics
Result
Overall, this project allowed me to develop my skills within Framer and create a functioning website. The theme in the end outcome portrayed the 1950's successfully focusing in on music, food and fashion, which was one of the main goals of the project. The booking system was clear and easy to navigate, meaning it was accessible for the users.
It is a successful stepping stone into more projects as although there is many elements that may need improving, I learnt skills that enhance me as a designer.
